Obituary of Thelma Franks

Thelma Owns The Sabre Franks, member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Preceded in death by parents: father William Owns The Sabre, mother Sophie Laundreaux, siblings: 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Survived by sibling Maxine Lois Spotted Bear, currently living in Eagle Butte, South Dakota. Thelma’s children are: Paul Owns The Sabre (California) Karen Mares (Denver) Ted Owns The Sabre (and wife Ann, Denver) Lois V. Schnieder (Denver) Grandchildren (7), and Great-grandchildren (16). Thelma will be missed by her immediate family and many other relatives, as well as the Native American Community of Colorado. She had many close friends over the years, as she followed gatherings and Pow Wow’s. We have all been blessed by her presence. She was special, loving, and a caring person. God saw her getting tired, and a cure was not to be. With tears we watched her leave. Now many memories of her we will carry within our hearts. Cremation 5/25/09. Ashes to be scattered at a later date. Memorial Services 5/30/09.
