Obituary of Richard Arnold

Richard Lee Arnold (Hawkii) December 1 1941 – August 11 – 2010 Dick passed away August 11th in Denver, CO, freeing him to climb mountains and ride his bike again. Dick was born to Woodrow and Marjorie Heisler Arnold Dec. 1, 1941 in Inglewood, CA. but grew up in Glenwood Springs and Grand Junction graduating with the class of 1960 from GJHS. A 1964 car accident in which Dick was a passenger left him in a coma for 25 days. Doctors said he would never walk again, but he proved them wrong, climbing 14,000ft Mt Elbert five times, Mt McKinley in Alaska and many of the 14,000ft peaks in Colorado. Usually on snow shoes! While learning to walk again Dick began bicycle therapy which he soon took outside. Dick rode in Rag Bre, Iowa for 11 years and Ride the Rockies many times. Dick rode for many charities and rode 3,400 miles from Spokane, WA to Atlantic City, NJ for the American Lung Assc. He was riding from Disneyland to Disneyworld when he broke his ankle in Texas. This ended his long rides, but he still rode thousands of mile a year in and around Denver. Dick worked at the Federal Center for 17 years, followed by employment at Goodwill and King Soopers in Thornton retiring in 2005. Dick enjoyed sports of any kind, attending Rockies games, watching football and any other sport on TV. Dick is preceeded in death by both parents and his sister Marcia Tomlinson. He is survived by his sister Sharon Stover (Lester), three nieces, Theresa Hager, Grand Jct., Susan Gobbo, Morrison, Alice Ulman (David) Grand Jct and one nephew Terry Edris, Grand Jct., and many nieces and nephews.
