Obituary of Rochelle Grant

“Rochelle Johner Grant, age 74, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2010. Rochelle was born June 17, 1936 in Bismarck, North Dakota to Barbara Owens. Rochelle moved to the Denver area in 1972. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction from the University of Colorado in 1976 and her Master of Arts degree in 1982 from the University of Northern Colorado. She was an accomplished counselor and teacher specializing in women’s studies. She taught courses at Red Rocks Community College, Arapahoe Community College, and Jefferson County Adult Education. Later in life, Rochelle began to study art and cultivate her artistic skills. She became an award-winning multimedia expressionistic painter with an avant-garde style. Rochelle was a member of the Wheat Ridge Art League. As reflected in much of her artwork, Rochelle always loved nature and wildlife, especially the Colorado landscape and the Southwest. Rochelle is preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Owens and two of her sisters: Donna Boley and Geraldine Ellis. She is survived by her longtime partner Dale Ubil, her two sons Jim and Troy Griffin, her daughter Deirdre Reishus, grandchildren Nina Patterson and Ryan Asel, and her sister Karen Kurry.
