Obituary of Hugh Hudson

Hugh H. Hudson (age 86) of Lakewood, died 1 April 2009. His body was cremated. Hudson was born 5 March 1923 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and was a 1947 civil engineering graduate of Mississippi State University. He was employed by the US Geological Survey as a hydraulic engineer/hydrologist in Mississippi, New Mexico, Hawaii and other Pacific islands, Washington D.C. and in Colorado. He also served short-term assignments in Oklahoma, California, and Brazil. Following his retirement from the USGS in 1980, Hudson continued working for the USGS on special assignments, one of which was the preparation as senior author of “A History of the Water Resources Division, US Geological Survey, 1957-1966”. In 1983 and ’84, he served as consultant to Saudi Arabian Dames and Moore in its appraisal of the water resources of the Azir Mountains of Saudi Arabia. He was a Fellow and Life Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and chair of its Committee on Ground Water Hydrology in 1979 and ’80. He was registered in Hawaii and Colorado as a professional engineer. Hudson is survived by his wife Rebecca Ely Hudson (Lakewood, Colorado), sons Lawrence (Tempe, Arizona), Mark (Arvada, Colorado), and four grandchildren.
