Obituary of George Bartling

George K Bartling passed away suddenly at 200pm on February 6, 2017 at the age of 73 at his home in Aurora, CO. He was born in San Francisco, CA on August 18, 1943 to Edward and Blanche Bartling. He married his beloved wife Lois on March 24, 1962 in their hometown of Ackley, IA. George was preceded in death by his parents and loving daughter Karla Bartling. George loved his family dearly and always put them first. He is survived by his wife Lois and their two sons, David (with wife Beth and their children Amanda, Michael, and Matthew), and Michael (with wife Stacey and their children Brittanie, Nathanial, Allyson, and Maxwell). Brother Frank and sister Barb Kruse. George graduated high school from Ackley-Geneva high school in Iowa. He went onto attend DeVry Tech in Chicago,IL where he graduated with high honors. After school, he worked for numerous television and radio stations as a technician until he was employed by AT&T in 1964 at Norway, IL. He retired from AT&T in 2000 at Denver, CO . He was also employed by the City of Aurora as a temporary employee of the forestry, streets, and parks departments. George was known world wide from his amateur radio call sign WA9TCD where he made and helped countless friends. Through amateur radio, he become a member of numerous clubs including Omega and ARES where he helped FEMA and the American Red Cross during times of need. When his boys were younger, George was heavily involved in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts where he was a Scout leader earning numerous high leadership awards. While living in Aurora CO, George was involved in civic functions that included the Parks and Open Spaces board, and Bicycle Aurora. There will be an informal memorial service for George on February 11, 2017 from 200-400 pm at the Aurora Beck Recreation Center located at 800 Telluride St., Aurora, CO, 80011. There will also be a private family ceremony located at his final resting place in Ackley, IA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of George to his favorite charity in honor of his daughter Karla. The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society at donate.lls.org or call at 888-557-7177.
