Obituary of James Miller

“Dr. James Earl (Jim) Miller, Professor Emeritus of Music, former Dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts and the School of Music at the University of Northern Colorado. Ski Bum, Outdoors Lover and Hiker Extraordinaire, died 4/9/11 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Cremation. No Services. Born May 15, 1929 in Dearborn, Michigan. Earned his Bachelor of Music, Michigan State University; MA, Music Education, Colorado State College of Education (UNC); MFA and PhD, Music Performance and Literature, University of Iowa; Postgraduate study, Music Administration, Eastman School of Music. He served in the US Air Force at Lowry Air Force Base, Denver. Jim worked tirelessly to create the College of Performing and Visual Arts at UNC and to help it become an internationally acclaimed center for excellence in arts, performance and education.
