Obituary of Elizabeth Mitchell

Elizabeth “Betty” Haag Mitchell passed quietly away on November 30, 2012 at the home of her children in Lakewood, Colorado, aged 90 years, 19 days short of her 91st birthday. Betty was a longtime resident of Bethesda MD, and the widow of Edwin S. “Curly” Mitchell, who retired as vice president of Tompkins Builders in Washington, D.C. Betty was a loving homemaker, a lifelong volunteer, a Cub Scout den mother, fundraiser for many good causes and worked tirelessly at the thrift shop benefiting the Florence Crittenden Home. She was instrumental in setting up ILH (Independent Living for the Handicapped). After retiring to Calabash, NC, she worked as a fund raiser for the Calabash NC Fire Dept. After her husband’s death in 2000 Betty moved to Bristow, VA, to reside with her only child William Scott Mitchell and his wife Karen. She was an avid bridge player, loved music and dancing,loved traveling the world, and most of all loved her family. She was a woman full of joy. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will miss her terribly. Family graveside service will be held at West Laurel Hills Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA on December 28, 2012.
