Obituary of Stephen Snow

Stephen Michael Snow, 63, of Denver, passed away at home on March 3rd. Son of Cecil V. “Mike” Snow of Denver and Violet C. Bordigon of Atwood, CO, Steve was born on February 27, 1948 in Denver. His father preceded him in death on March 17, 1951 suffering injuries resulting from a car crash into the South Platte River near Florida Avenue. His mother died on September 7, 2003 due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Steve traced his Colorado roots back to 1885 in Rocky Ford when his Snow relatives arrived from northern Arkansas. His maternal grandparents were from Italy. Steve graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1966 and married Diane Weist on January 15, 1967. They were married for thirty years. A dedicated father, Steve is survived by his son Shawn (Kevin Pharris) of Denver, daughter Lori (David Ricord) of Tomahawk, WI and daughter Gina (Tom Pollard) of Gunnison. Steve worked hard his whole life, starting at Samsonite luggage and continuing on with the Denver Public Schools, Brad Ragan, and the Gates Rubber Company. His last twenty years were spent at Proctor Productions, where he worked as warehouse manager until 2006. Badges of honor from these jobs included a riveted thumb from Samsonite, frequent decontamination showers at Gates after filling batteries with cadmium and lead, and lost fingers at Proctor. Steve loved to play his guitar and enjoyed spending time in quiet places in the woods of Colorado. He often went fishing and hunting. Steve’s spirituality was renewed after time spent camping. He was especially fond of music including Creedence Clearwater Revival. During his later years, he would often be out on his motorcycle. An accomplished carpenter, Steve’s hobby is left for posterity in the numerous pieces of furniture and other wooden items left to friends and family, the last of which was a cradle for his grandson Logan. Steve had a deep respect for his mother who had to raise four children all alone. He is survived also by brother and sister Ron and Michelle, both of Denver, and sister Elizabeth of Salt Lake City. Among other ailments, including two strokes, Steve succumbed to brain cancer. He remained independent to the very end, living in his boyhood home- always living his motto “Endeavor to Perservere.” A memorial service will be held to honor his life on Tuesday, March 8th at 2 p.m. at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion, 770 Pennsylvania, Denver.
