Obituary of Odie Womack

“Odie Womack was born in Gallatin, Tennessee in 1926. His father passed away when he was a child, leaving his mother to finish raising him and his brothers alone. When he became a young man, patriotism and adventure beckoned and he joined the United States Army. After serving a few years in the Army, he enlisted in the newly formed United States Air Force. International postings took him to Newfoundland, France, and England, where he met and married his wife, Janet, in 1956. A year later, the young couple welcomed their first daughter, Karen, into the world. The birth of their second daughter, Maxine, followed five years later. In 1963, Odie received orders and served in Vietnam. During the course of his military career, the family was stationed at several bases, most notably: Lakenheath, England; Roswell, New Mexico; Mildenhall, England; and Rapid City, South Dakota. It was in Rapid City, at Ellsworth AFB, where Odie retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force in 1969. After his military retirement, the family settled in Colorado in 1972.
