Marie Woodson

Obituary of Marie Woodson

Marie Gum Lan Woodson, beloved wife and mother joined her son, Colin, in the spiritual plain on October 31, 2011. Born in Igloo, South Dakota in May of 1948, Marie’s family lived briefly in Hawaii before settling permanently in Colorado Springs. She was the middle child of five kids, all of whom attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School. Marie briefly entertained the idea of becoming a nun before falling head over heels with Jim, the guitar player in a local coffee house. The two married and spent the next couple of years traveling the U.S. while Jim played lead guitar with various touring bands. Marie helped out by being a roadie and groupie. When they decided to settle down in Lakewood, Colorado, Marie took on the role of a dedicated stay-at-home mother. She was a devoted champion for her son who was born with a rare blood disease and needed frequent medical attention. Marie’s hobbies included quilting and knitting and she gave away countless quilts and scarves to friends, neighbors and local nursing homes. Blessed with a beautiful voice, Marie was pursuing a career in voiceover work. She volunteered her time at the Colorado Talking Book Library recording books for the blind. Marie was an amazing cook and her delicious and prodigious meals were wasted on a small family of four. It was often joked about that she would have no problem feeding the Roman Army in a pinch. Her won tons were legendary and the recipe is still a closely guarded secret. Marie was a gentle spirit whose beautiful voice, creative generosity and fierce loyalty touched many. Her kindness and strength was the glue that held family and friends together. She will be missed. She is survived by husband Jim and daughter Amanda. The family is holding a Celebration of Life Ceremony on November 13, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Boettcher Mansion.
