Barbara Davis

Obituary of Barbara Davis

Barbara Jean Davis, age 87, died peacefully at Mountain Vista Retirement Community in Wheat Ridge Colorado on December 30, 2014. Barbara was born July 13, 1927 in Modesto, California, daughter of Milton Joseph Wickham and Emma Grace Wickham. She grew up on a dairy farm near the small California town of Gustine and had a life-long habit of getting up at dawn “with the cows”. Barbara graduated from Gustine High School and received an Education Degree from Seattle Pacific College. Although Barbara never taught, she continued taking classes related to her education degree in Kansas, California, and Arizona. She also earned her pilot’s license in her mid-30s. Her training in education was useful in supplementing her six children’s education. Barbara was married for more than 30 years to Stanley Nelson Davis. During their marriage they enjoyed world travel and shared this love of travel with their children. Barbara was always active in her church and along with sewing and embroidery, had a unique hobby of K-Tel knitting. Many family members and friends were recipients of her knitted caps, covered hangers, and other creations. Barbara was a long-term resident of Tucson, Arizona and moved to the Denver area two years ago. Barbara was survived by her six children, Gerald Davis, Ruth Queathem, Darlene Binder, Randal Davis, Betty Voelkel, and Nancy Davis. Barbara was also survived by twelve grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Barbara will be remembered during a family gathering in Phoenix that will be arranged at a later date. She will then be interred in the Modesto Citizen’s Cemetery in California where her parents are buried. Barbara’s family would like to thank Mountain Vista Retirement Community for their excellent care in the last two years of her life. She loved the staff and facility. Memorials may be sent to Wycliffe Bible Translators, PO Box 628200, Orlando, Florida 32862-8200 or www.wycliffe.org.
