Obituary of Gloria Sanchez-Galindo

Gloria Sánchez Galindo passed away peacefully the night of September 17th 2019 in Denver, Colorado wrapped in purple silk and covered in flowers and mint and rosemary, with the moon by her side and a blue horse walking along her on her path. She was 73 years of age. She had become ill with a central nervous system infection that had attacked her brain.

We were all there or had been in the days leading up to her passing. Her small tight family and close group of friends were all by her side during her last days on this earth laughing and crying and praying, tearing down the walls, working with energy, dancing and singing, doing whatever we could. She passed away at Denver Health, a medical center she knew well and trusted deeply. You see, Gloria had, in her last years in Denver, worked as a medical interpreter and Denver Health was one of her jobs. She always spoke kindly of the staff there and they always treated her with a special smile. Gloria was a very special lady indeed.

Gloria was born on April 20th 1946 on the costal town of Tampico in the state of Tamaulipas in Mexico. She is preceded in death by the parents Francisco “Don Paco” Sánchez y Juana Galindo de Sánchez. Both passed away while Gloria was a teenager, shaping her nature, her tenacity and her almost literary relationship with life from that point on.

In the 60s Gloria moved to México DF, in 1976 Alejando her only son and, as she would put it, “the greatest joy of my life” was born. Exclusively her decision.

In the 90s while working as a conference interpreter all over Mexico, Gloria fell in love with Tom and emigrated reluctantly to Denver Colorado where she embroidered a colorful and warm network of friends with whom she shared and laughed and made life in this new place a bit more like home.

Gloria is survived by Alejandro Sánchez her son, Cristina her loving sister, life time companion, source of strength, most intelligent and beautiful sounding board with whom Gloria shared daily since childhood the beauty and mystery of life. By her Ex-husband Tom Chapin, and by many many friends all over the world whom she touched in that way Gloria had to touch the people she loved.

By her request there were no funeral services held. Her remains were cremated and will be use to grow trees in a couple of special places for her. That’s what she wished.

May you find your Peace our beloved Gloria; mother, sister, guide, friend. This place is just not the same without you here.

Until we meet again, you will be dearly missed. Your light shines ever so brightly mi semillita.

All our love.
