Obituary of Richard Lee Floodeen

After a brave journey with Early-onset Alzheimer’s, Richard (Rick) Lee Floodeen, 61, entered into the arms of Jesus on October 25, 2019. Rick was born in Fargo, North Dakota, on September 1, 1958, to Verna and Bill Floodeen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Verna and Bill, his brother, Donald Floodeen, and his mother-in-law, Deloris Corder. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Floodeen, daughters, Chantel Ellis (Ryan), Krystin Floodeen and Lorra Floodeen, his brothers, Tom Floodeen (Cindy), David Floodeen (Addie) and Bob Floodeen (Wanda), brother-in-laws, David Corder (Arlene), Rick Corder (April) and Doug Corder (Betsy), sister-in-law, Sherry Nelson (Klindt) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rick grew up ice skating and playing ice hockey in the park across the street from his childhood home in Aberdeen, South Dakota. He graduated from high school in 1977 and enlisted in the Navy where he proudly served for 6 years on the USS Hewitt. He was honorably discharged in 1983 and moved to Colorado. In 1991, Rick met Barb. Three years later, he finally asked her on a date, and they quickly fell in love. They were married on October 14, 1995, in Fort Lupton, Colorado.
Family was so important in Rick’s life and heart. Rick strived to be at every school performance, athletic competition, and awards event for his daughters and hated if he missed anything. Rick loved the Navy, hockey, movies, cooking weekend breakfasts, being goofy with his girls, road trips, and spending time with his family. His memory will always be in our hearts. We will miss and love him always.
A Celebration of Life honoring Rick will be on Saturday, November 9, 2019, from 2 pm-5 pm at Harvest Fellowship Church, 11401 E. 160th Ave., Brighton, Colorado 80602. Come join us in remembering Rick and celebrating his life, love, and a big heart. If you plan to attend, feel free to wear something that reminds you of Rick.
Rick loved the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and appreciated the resources and support groups offered through the Alzheimer’s Association. With gratitude, the family has designated the Alzheimer’s Association Colorado Chapter for memorial contributions (act.alz.org/goto/rickfloodeen).
