It is nice to know that Pete was well loved led a happy and productive life. I knew him very well back in the late 1960s.
May God embrace his soul and my God comfort your hearts.

Claus Peter Mathis, known to us as Peter and "Red" back at the Cramerton American housing complex, Augsburg, Germany. In 1968 & 1969 we played American Youth Association (AYA) football together: 1968 (2nd place Spartans) & 1969 (1st place Cowboys). As a Spartan he won a trophy for "Most Blood & Guts Defensive Lineman." He was such a hard hitting and talented football player. I thought he would end up in the professional ranks of the NFL. We lived in the same building together, #540, not far from Sheridan Kaserne, the playground, the distribution center, and the old Jewish cemetery. We became best friends because we spent most of time together - obviously no one else wanted us two misfits. At any rate, were best "frenemies." Frenemies due to the era. The late 1960s was a time of racial ignorance at critical levels. Even the decent people were confused at best.
I am happy to know that my bestie "Red" lived a happy and productive life. We both joined the military around the same time at age 17. We experienced so many experiences together in Augsburg. I will never forget the teenager I spent most of my time with during those days.
May God embrace Claus Peter's soul.
Rest in peace!
