Bob Steder

Obituary of Bob (Robert M.) Steder

In Memory of

Bob (Robert M.) Steder

We lost a true “Deusey” the day Bob (Robert M.) Steder left us, wrapped in the arms of God. Born in Chicago, Illinois, he retained those valuable Chicago street smarts throughout his 87+ years of life.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents (Ray & Millie), his sister/“brother” (Shirley & Frank), his precious fur child (Ily Bobo) and other loved friends & family. Bob is survived by his beloved & adoring wife of 43+ years, Darlene, his loving daughters/sons Linda (Brian), Laura (Don), “sister/brother” (Tricia & Mike), dear family/friends Monica, Jeremy, with “grandchildren” Isabel & Ian, & nephews/nieces Steve (Joyce), Gary (Lynn), Phil (Pamela), Tanya (Adam), Gabe & Alex, and a myriad of friends & extended family.

As a proud geologist, Bob had a wildly successful career in the energy industry, which took him & his young family all around this wonderful country. The highlight of his career, for him, was his participation in the exploration & development of nuclear energy, where he made lifelong friendships with his team of geologists (rock sniffers).

Friends & family knew Bob as a true automobile enthusiast. Whether on road trips across his treasured United States or on exotic world travels with Darlene, they were always in search of car shows to marvel at & enjoy. Many of their friends referred to them as “the photographer & the stenographer”, as Bob took the pictures while Darlene took copious notes to accompany them.

As everyone who knew Bob would attest, he was nearly always the most interesting person in the room, with stories to tell of the world travels he & Darlene were planning or from which they had just returned, or just the mundane details of daily life. Together, wrapped in each others arms always, they shared the joys & sorrows of life with gusto, an infectious sense of humor & a “no regrets” attitude. Look up ”life of the party” & you’ll find Bob’s picture. He was truly larger than life.

Thank you Bob for sharing your life with us all. It was an honor to walk beside you, my heart, whether it was just to our favorite restaurants for breakfast or on all our wonderful world travels to faraway shores. I miss you, my darling.

Due to the current travel/gathering Covid-19 restrictions, a private Celebration of Bob’s glorious life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to a charitable organization close to your heart, Bob would have loved that.
