Obituary of Kenneth Robert Boyd

Kenneth Robert (Bobby) Boyd was born in Burlington, Iowa on September 25, 1964 to Kenneth Boyd and Glatis (Boyd) Hoffman.    Bobby lived in New London, Iowa for the first several years of his life before the family moved to Aurora, Colorado after Bobby’s father passed away.  Bobby attended Aurora schools and graduated from Gateway High School in 1983.     He married Andrea Barry and together they had two sons, Joshua Ray and Kendal Robert.      Bobby spent over 30 years as an employee of Academy Roofing in Aurora.  He began his career as a gutter installer and moved through the ranks to become a supervisor in the new construction division at the company.  Bobby spent 18 years as a licensed pyrotechnic with his best friend, John Peacock.  They coordinated fireworks shows throughout the metro area and beyond.    He owned his own airport limousine business for several years.  In February, 2020, he married Dawn Werner.     Bobby was diagnosed as a young man with a genetic disease, Von Hippel Lindau Syndrome.  He passed away from complications of the disease on Friday, August 21.  He leaves behind his wife, Dawn, his sons, Josh and Kendal, his stepchildren Johnathan Hulbert, Rachael Werner and Corbin Werner,  his mother Glatis Hoffman,  his siblings Curt (Suzie), Sherry (Bob) Rohan, Cindy (Mark) Dempsey,  Rodney (Denise), Kevin (Shonna),  Lori (Ven) Sova and his stepbrothers and sisters Sandy, Lynda,  Lloyd Jr. (Butch), Donnie (Cindy)  and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth, his stepfather, Lloyd Hoffman and his stepbrother, Howard Hoffman.      

Bobby was a presence wherever he went and often the life of the party.  He worked hard, and was especially talented in building decks, waterfalls and general remodeling.    He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed his help.  He enjoyed attending NASCAR races, and he spent many years camping, riding motorcycles and assisting with events at the Aurora Eagles Aerie 3224.   He coordinated many parts of the Aurora Senior Citizens Dinner at the Eagles for years.   Bobby will be remembered for his great courage and positive attitude as he faced his illness.  He never complained about his diagnosis nor asked why.  He lived each day with a smile on his face and a belief that to move any mountain you start by moving one rock at a time.  Bobby loved spending time in the great outdoors.    We will remember and love Bobby forever.   Due to Covid restrictions, Bobby’s service will be private for family members only.  In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Von Hippel Lindau (VHL) Alliance at 1208 VFW Parkway, Suite 303, Boston, MA  02132 or you can donate online at vhl.org/donate.  Rest in Peace, Bobby.
