Barbara Schlenz

Obituary of Barbara Schlenz

Barbara Briggs Schlenz was born July 12, 1962, in Rexburg, Idaho, to parents Gary and Janis Briggs. Early on, the family moved a few times due to job opportunities. They lived in Tremonton, Utah, and Brigham City, Utah before settling in Silverthorne, Colorado in December 1969. Barb spent the majority of her life in Summit County, Colorado.  Some of her hobbies growing up included going fishing, riding horses, playing the flute, and playing basketball.  She graduated from Summit High School in 1980.

After graduation, she met the love of her life, Bruce Schlenz, and started their life together.  After 4 years of living together, they were happily married on September 30, 1984.  They happily raised their two daughters Audra and Jeanette in Silverthorne and Dillon.  Barb is best known for her time spent as a cashier at the Dillon City Market.  She worked there for 28 years.  After 49 wonderful years in Summit County, Bruce and Barb relocated to the Denver Metro area in December 2018.

Outside of work, Barb found enjoyment in many things including watching and listening to music, camping, biking, and going on road trips with her family. Barb absolutely loved every moment she was able to have with her granddaughter Brooklyn. She gave her so much happiness and joy. Barb had an uncanny ability to make friends no matter where or who it was. She could almost always be seen with a smile on her face and laughing along with everyone else. She was known to stand up for herself and others when she felt fit. She taught her daughters to be nice to everyone they meet since you never know when that will come back and help you in the long run. She always marched to the beat of her own drum, even until the end.

To anyone that actually knew Barb, it quickly became clear how giving of a person she truly was. This can be highlighted by one of her favorite traditions, taking on the role of the Easter Bunny. Her family would leave baskets for their friends and family in secret and then listen behind corners for the inevitable moment when friends talked about how a mysterious basket appeared in front of their houses each Easter.

She spent her last 6 weeks of life visiting and laughing with family and friends. Barb died at home in Golden, CO after a courageous battle with cancer on September 27, 2020.  She is survived by her husband Bruce Schlenz, daughters Audra Jackson (Barry), and Jeanette Schlenz (Cameron), sister Debra Woolf (Steve), brother Mike Briggs (Gillian), and granddaughter Brooklyn Rose Jackson.  She is proceeded in her death by her parents and brother Lynn Briggs.  A celebration of life will be held on October 11th, 2020 for family and close friends.
