Obituary of Robert L. Wiegand

Robert Leander Wiegand

Bob came into this world July 27, 1935 and left for his Heavenly home in the Hands of his Lord November 8, 2020. His family, faith and friends were very important to him.

He was born on the family farm southwest of Petersburg, Nebraska to Leo and Mary Hahn Wiegand, being the younger of their two children. Bob graduated from Saint John’s High school in 1953, joined the Army in 1955 and was discharged from active duty in 1957. While employed at the Chevy garage in Columbus, Nebraska, he became intrigued with a school teacher whose car he was working on. They dated and a month later became engaged. Bob married the love of his life, Mary Ann Jenny, January 12, 1958. Their son, Rory, was born in 1959 and daughter, Denise, in 1962. Bob’s second job driving a Union Pacific Motor Freight truck evolved into a long career in the trucking industry. He retired from Northwest Transport Trucking Company as Safety Supervisor in 1997.

Bob and Mary Ann loved the outdoors. They camped and fished, then built a cabin in Fairplay, Colorado. Touring the country on their Goldwing motorcycle was another love. They toured all 48 states, traveled six times into Canada and once into Mexico. In January, 1994, they took their first cruise and sailed their 95th in 2015.

Bob loved building and working with his hands. At an early age, and continuing into retirement, he built miniature steam engines. Each one was unique and of Bob’s own design.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, son Rory (Mary Ann), daughter Denise (Chris) Briggs, grandsons Andrew (Ashley) Wiegand, Kenneth Coleman, Skyler Briggs, and granddaughter, Jennifer Coleman, great grandchildren Hailey and Hudson Wiegand, sister, Frances Draeger, 2 brothers-in-laws, 2 sisters-in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Wiegand.

He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Olinger Evergreen Cemetery 200 E. 168th Ave, Broomfield, Colorado. A celebration of his life will be scheduled at a later time.

Memorials may be given to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, ELCA, 12099 Lowell Blvd, Broomfield, CO 80020
