Obituary of Virginia Gladys Monserud

Virginia Gladys Andersen Monserud was born at home in Englewood, CO on March 4,1919 to Danish immigrant Walter Andersen and Irish immigrant Annie Gallagher Andersen.  She graduated from Littleton High School in 1936 and continued her education at the University of Denver. She was working at KOA Radio in Denver when she met First Lieutenant Joseph O. Monserud. Virginia and Joseph married in 1941.  She was a wife and homemaker for 77 years and together they had four children.  After the War, Joseph continued his career with the Bureau of Reclamation and they lived near construction projects in Wyoming and Oklahoma.  In 1965, they moved to Salida, CO, where they built a house and made a home for the next 51 years. They enjoyed an active retirement.  In 2016, they moved St. Andrews Village in Aurora to be near family.  After a long and happy life, Virginia died December 9, 2020.  

 

Virginia was predeceased by her parents, five siblings, husband Joseph Monserud and daughter Jo Anne Monserud.  She is survived by her sister Elaine Breen, daughter Katherine (John) Miller, son David (Jane) Monserud, son Jim (Barbara) Monserud, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.  

 

Joseph and Virginia’s ashes will be buried together at Ft. Logan National Cemetery on Wednesday September 8, 2021 Staging Area "C" at 1:15 pm. 

 

Memorial donations may be made to Salida Regional Library.  Arrangements are with All States Cremation in Denver.
