We miss your Grant! You were always so witty and fun to be around. We have so many wonderful memories of you, so many funny and cool sayings you left with us. You got me into running and we ran the 1984 Peña Mayors Cup marathon holding hands at the finish line with Dana and Jenifer there waiting. You taught me how to golf and you bought me a fur coat with the money you earned from being a wrestling referee. So many dear memories. May you continue sharing your love in Heaven.

I had Grant as my 7th grade Biology and home room teacher at Bernards High School. He left a lasting impression and I am so very very sorry that our paths never crossed again later in life. He was kind, funny, and caring. Grant made this shy nerdy girl feel that she could conquer the world. He was a great teacher and a wonderful man. His family has my sincere condolences. I am saddened to hear of his passing.

My husband, Carl Koonsman, only learned about Grant’s passing this past Wednesday while attending a memorial for Carl’s Campus Middle School principal. That was in the early 1970s. We quickly found out that so many of us from that era had no idea. This shows how paths diverge and lives change over the years, but it’s also why obituaries and memorials are important. Grant introduced my husband and me as a couple to another couple, Bill & Carolyn Reimer, who had been Grant’s friends back in New Jersey. The Reimers have remained our close friends through the years thanks to Grant. We can hear his voice in our memories and relive his charm and sense of humor. It’s impossible to take him out of those days when we were all young and starting our careers. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Our older son, Warren, was a student and wrestler at Overland HS during Grant's tenure. I remember most Grant saying something like, "Almost right isn't good enough. I built that bridge almost right. I'm sorry it collapsed." This has stuck with me and Warren to this day. Our younger son, Keith, was also a science student of Grant's 6 years later. He remembers the values and logic that Grant instilled upon him. Besides that, Grant whooped me in racquetball at Colorado Athletic Club, and I thought I was pretty good. He was kind!

Grant is still so alive in our hearts and memory and so very sad. Prayers and sincere condolences to Kathy and family as he is missed so much. The obituary described him so perfectly, his wit, humor, generosity and kindness - so hard to believe he is gone. May he Rest In Peace with our Lord. Teri

Let me be the first to tell you how much Grant meant to everybody he touched, my name is Todd, I am one of the first student athlete's he had at Overland High School. I was a wrestler and cross country runner with Grant as my coach, and then he was my mentor, and then my life-long friend! I could write a book about how he influenced my life and so many others, but I will end by saying: Grant made everybody's life more fun, purposeful, active, and intriguing... RIP Grant!!
