Obituary of David Lynn Findley

David Lynn Findley was born on April 28, 1957 to Kenneth Findley and Jacqueline Johnston Findley. He was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He passed away in his sleep on August 15, 2021 at the age of 64. Dave is survived by his wife Pat, his son Matthew (April) Findley. Matt’s children Andrew and Mikayla Findley (mom Julie Narcy Lindberg) and Bailey and Cooper Findley. He is also survived by his daughter Sara and her partner Mike Vonfeldt, Sara’s children Blake, Aaron (father Nathan Osterkamp) Hannah, Abigail, Iriel and Avah (father Daniel Mauro). Mike’s children Isaac and Sydney. David’s brothers Don, John and Eric (Sierra) Findley. Mother in law Dorothy Janssen, in laws Jim (Trish) Janssen, Linda (Tom) Schmit, Susan (Tom) Bohlken, Bill (Carol) Janssen, and Connie (Creighton) Randolph, 19 nieces and nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his sister Dawn and Father in law Ed Janssen.

Dave spent his early life in the Anamosa Iowa area where he graduated in 1975 from Anamosa High School. Dave met his wife Pat when they were in high school and they married on March 12, 1976.

David spent his early years helping with the family farm that belonged to his Grandparents Delmar and Marie Findley. During his time in Iowa he worked at several places including Cucklers in Monticello and Collins in Cedar Rapids. It was during his time at Cucklers where he learned to do structural steel detailing which was his main career throughout his life.

Dave and Pat moved to Colorado at the end of 1983. Dave worked in many different places in Colorado and had many different careers and positions including house inspections, structural detailing, project management, and grout doctor. He had his own structural steel detailing company called Steel Peak Detailing which was very successful. His final position was with Cutting Edge Steel in Dacono, Colorado where he was a checker and an estimator. His favorite job was project manager for building Northrock Church in Thornton Colorado which was then called Grace Church.

Dave’s greatest passion was ministry. He loved Jesus with all his heart and soul and received his pastor’s license after attending classes at Mile High Ministry with Pat. Dave taught classes at the ministry school for a couple years then he and Pat started a church. The Fort Church Dacono had several locations but for the last couple years they had services in their home.

Dave loved to do woodworking and had his own woodworking business for a while in Monticello Iowa where he made clocks and other wooden items. He made many items in his shop for family and friends which will be greatly cherished.

He could fix anything and was a skilled in all things related to construction. He helped many people with re-modeling projects and remodeled their home when they lived in Thornton.

David loved to be in the mountains and loved to go back packing and camping with his family and friends. He and his son Matt and their friends spent many weekends back packing the different mountains in Colorado. He always came back refreshed and full of wonderful and hilarious stories. He loved to see his son and grandsons share that passion. He and Pat had several campers and he loved to go camping with the family.

Dave loved to play the guitar and sing with his family and friends. He loved to worship Jesus. One of his favorite things to do was to sing and play guitar with his children and grandchildren.

Dave’s greatest love next to his Savior was his family. He deeply loved his children Matt and Sara with all his heart and loved to spend time with them and the grandchildren. His last day on earth was spent playing with the grand kids and talking with his son, and watching a movie with the family. He loved his grandkids and would do anything for them.

He was well known for his hilarious stories which he loved to tell. He was a great story teller and his face and eyes would light up when he was telling a story. He loved to write song parodies with his friends and they would share them when they got together or sat around the campfire. If you knew him, you laughed with him. He made everyone smile. He will be greatly missed.
