Ric The "G" posted a condolence
Wednesday, February 9, 2022
I am looking at a photo of Jeff and my sister Nancy which Ellyn thoughtfully included in a Christmas card this past December (2021). I miss him so much. Some of this missing business revolves around my own guilt of not being in touch with him after Uncle Donald's death. Jeff and I were so close in the 60's. We were many miles apart - Dumont, NJ and Cazenovia, NY. But our families got together frequently. I still have 7" reel to reel tapes of our dinner conversations where you can hear me laughing about the way his brother Pete addressed Jeff (clod, swine herd nematode, etc.) Despite the apparent brother to brother insults, the DeBlois and Gourlay clans were very close. Jeff and I would play DJ's. He was Jeff The Wizard. Yours truly was Ric The G (a moniker I still use). We traded little 3" reel to reel tapes with our sentiments as well as DJ patter from WABC (in my case) and both WNDR and WOLF for Jeff's. I still have tapes where Pete, who was a member of the Caz Cats was kind enough to play his guitar to the tune of 77 WABC. When a friend of mine (Jack) hitchhiked up from New Jersey for Expo '67, we arrived late at night and stayed in his remarkable tree house. When my wife, daughter Kristin and our dog and cat moved to Colorado in January of 1977, we welcomed Jeff (who drove out on I believe in a Honda motor cycle) to our humble abode. These were good times. Jeff moved out here permanently when he saw the beauty of "God's country". We decided Jeff should be one of the God parents to Kristin. My stay in Colorado was from January 1977 though June of 1987. I moved back (which I thought was temporary) to help my Mom with my Dad's health issues. Jeff and I lost track. I'm glad we caught up when his Dad died but I kept thinking when I go back to Colorado to visit my kids we would hook up again. To find out that hope can no longer occur is more devastating then I thought. I had stored up a number of aural memories to share with him, but I waited too long.
