Obituary of Connie Lynn Dvorkin

Connie Lynn (Hurlbert) Dvorkin had a happy, fulfilling life surrounded by what she cherished most, her family. She was a gentle, caring person who made a huge impact on so many lives.

Born on July 15th, 1947, she was the first of four children born to Millard (Tuff) Hurlbert and Wanda Champlain Hurlbert. Her family would move between Sioux City IA and Carol NE. Many times, during her childhood. She spoke of happy times of living in a farm house where there was no heat and all the kids would gather around a wood burning stove but if you got to close you'd burn your bottom.

Connie attended Central High in Sioux City IA. and graduated with her diploma in 1965. She then went to work as an optician, she enjoyed this line of work and the many co-workers she met over the years. She continued in this line of work until her retirement in 2010. During her retirement she enjoyed sleeping in, spending time with her family, and watching her Law and Order, and Criminal Minds television shows.

As a young teen girl Connie met Barry Dvorkin and they were married in 1965. They had 2 children, Kendra Sue Johnson March 20,1966, Shana Marie Snoke June 26, 1972. Connie and Barry divorced but stayed cordial for many years.

Connie was very passionate about all of her family no matter if they were blood related or not. She loved nothing more then spending time with her daughters and their families.

Connie leaves behind her two daughters Kendra Johnson- husband Gene Johnson, grandson Niko Johnson, granddaughter Kayla Cain. Shana Snoke husband Donald Snoke Jr. grandson Zackary Stanton, grandson Darrin Robinson Snoke , grandson Teo Robinson. Her brother Kevin (Joe) Hurlbert wife Cheryl Hurlbert, her brother Stace Hurlbert and many nieces and several nephews.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, her younger sister Sally Holloway, her grandparents, aunts and uncles, many cousins, and several nieces and a few nephews.

Connie was great at “adopting” her children's friends over the years. Even though these children are now adults they still felt the warm and deep caring Connie had for them.

Connie had many friends that she had know for more then 40 years. Time might have gone by between their visits but when they got together they were just like a bunch of young girls reminiscing of years gone by too fast.

Connie made a lasting impression on the people she met. She had a welcoming, homey quality. Even in the hospital the nurses would be happy to see her, they would come into her room to just say hello and to visit.

Our mother, grandma, aunt and friend was an incredible person and was so loved, she will be missed terribly by her family and her friends. Her beautiful loving memories will live in all our hearts for years to come.

We’d like to know what family and friends remember most about Connie. There are so many good memories from over the years. Whether it be silly, funny, happy or even a little sad we’d love to hear it.

Connie, thank you for being part of our lives. We are forever going to miss you. However it brings us some peace knowing you are now pain free and are watching us from up above.
