Obituary of Violet Lorraine Gibbons

Violet Lorraine Gibbons

Violet Lorraine (Waltz) Gibbons, passed away into the arms of our Lord and Savior on December 25, 2021.

Lorraine was born on January 11, 1936 to Henry and Pauline (Strauch) Waltz in Longmont, Colorado, in a little beet shack on a very snowy day. Lorraine graduated from Manual High School, Class of 1954 in Denver, CO.

She married E. John Gibbons on Sept 12, 1959 at Our Lady of Grace Church in Denver, CO.  To this union two daughters were born:  Lorri Ann and Lisa Marie.

Lorraine had a strong work ethic that was instilled in her at a young age and continued throughout her life. During her senior year in high school, she worked for the revenue accounting office at Mountain Bell Telephone and continued there until her daughters were ready for school. The girls remember their dad wrapping them up in blankets and putting them in the car to drive downtown to pick up mom at night from work. She was the baker for the cafeteria at Leroy Elementary School when the girls were still young and worked for years at a neighborhood dry cleaner. She also worked for a number of years at the local Wal-Mart where she eventually retired. She was well known for her warm smile and friendly hello to everyone she met.  After retirement she volunteered back once again at Leroy Elementary helping the little ones read. The teachers and kids loved Lorraine, and she loved them too. She was so sad when she had to give up her volunteer work due to health reasons.  Lorraine was an avid reader and also loved her word search puzzles.

Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She spoiled all those she loved with her kindness, love, generosity and good cooking. She also took interest in anyone she would visit with and had a true gift for making you feel special. She was always there to help a person in need while putting her own needs last.

Lorraine devotedly attended Immaculate Heart of Mary in Northglenn. She and John were one of the first families to attend IHM when the Church started back in the 1960’s in the gymnasium at Leroy Elementary School. Lorraine loved her Church and her God.  She always knew God was taking care of her and those she loved.

Lorraine is survived by her husband E. John Gibbons.  Her two children, Lorri Weiss (Matthew) of Gothenburg, NE., and Lisa Huffman (Dean) of Falcon, CO. Three grandchildren, Lindsey (Ben) Zahller, Brian Weiss and Kelsey (Sloan) Soulia, and 4 great grandchildren, Lexus, Ryder, Kelan and Mackenzie. Along with her Brother and Sister in Law, Bob and JoAnn Gibbons, nieces, nephews and special friends, especially Marianne Brewer.

Lorraine was proceeded in death by her parents, 2 brothers – Robert and Henry Jr. Waltz, and 1 sister, Doris Harmon. Along with other nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws. Also a dear and longtime friend, Dorothy Mosher.
