Obituary of Katharine "Katie" Joy Olson

Our Precious Angel

Katharine “Katie” Joy Olson

Katie came into this world on September 28, 1988 at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.

Our beautiful and loving daughter, sister, fiancé, granddaughter, niece, cousin and amazing friend went to heaven on February 08, 2022. Katie left this world in her sleep; we still do not know why. Katie was only 33 years old.

Katie is survived by her mom, Margie Richards, her brother, Kristopher Olson, the loves of her life, her fiancé, Kenn Burton and his children, Austin, Vaylin and Braydon, her Nanny, Jackie Richards and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is loved by so many and will be missed every day.

Those she is with now, her dad, Steven Olson, her grandparents, Papa Richards, Grandma Nolene, Grandpa Gene Olson and the furry babies she has missed so much. They are all taking care of her now.

Katie was our miracle. We had tried for years to have a baby. She was so wanted. The day she was born, all 9 lbs. 10 oz of her, she was already loved by so many. Everyone showed up at the hospital to meet the long-awaited baby girl. There were so many visitors that they had to ask people to leave. Everyone started spoiling her, teaching her and loving her. Twenty-one months later she had a new baby brother, Kristopher. Her family was complete. Eight years later Katie and Kris lost their dad; it would forever affect their lives. From then on Katie always said she, Kris and I were a team.

Her Nanny Jackie took care of her when she was little while I was working. Katie adored her Nanny; in fact, during her school years, she had a sickness I called “Nannyitus”. She would wake up not feeling well and need to go stay with Nanny while Mom had to get to work. This was a 34-mile round trip I had to take before work in the morning. Amazingly, when I went to pick her up, she was all better. The last few years, Katie has been devoted to helping take care of her Nanny who is 92. Katie was determined that Nanny is going to live until at least 100. Nanny’s heart is broken.

She was so independent; her favorite saying was “Do Self”. She started school in a pair of pink cowboy boots she loved and wore all the time. That was her first fashion statement. She would grow up to have many more. Katie was so outgoing and loved to have fun. One of her favorite things to do was play softball and she made some of her best friends playing it. She went on through middle school and high school having a great time. Katie graduated from Standley Lake High School in 2007.

During her twenties she worked, traveled and dated. She had a few relationships, but not that unconditional love a mom wants for her children. Five years ago, she met and fell deeply in love with Kenn Burton. Kenn has three children and she fell in love with them too. They were engaged to be married but were waiting for Covid to be under control. In my eyes they were married, and they were a family. Knowing she had Kenn and the kids loving her so much made my heart melt. All I have ever wanted for my children is happiness and she was so very happy.

Katie made it her mission to make sure her family was safe during Covid. When the first case hit American soil, she started buying everything we all would need to keep safe. I admit at first, we thought she was being a bit paranoid. How wrong we all would be. We will not be having a service at this time. Katie worked too hard to keep everyone safe.

Katie loved her family and friends so much. She loved her life. She was always taking care of all of us. Please remember her smiling face and to honor her do something nice to help someone else.
