Obituary of Leona Marie Rich

Leona Marie Rich was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on March 19, 2022, after a long struggle with cancer. Even at the end, she was a true “energizer bunny,” keeping busy and remaining in good spirits.  

 

Leona was born in 1932 to Albert and Teresa Welischar in Brooklyn, New York. She married Henry Rich, her brother Eugene’s best friend, in 1952. Soon after, they chased their dreams and moved to Denver, Colorado, where they built an amazing life for themselves and their children.

 

Leona was a garage-saler at heart, delighting in giving away special finds to those she loved. Generous and kind, she never forgot a birthday and hosted wonderful family celebrations on holidays. She enjoyed traveling and encouraged everyone in her life to see the world. But her greatest joy was giving to her family. Leona, or GG, as she was affectionately known by her great-grandchildren, always gave unconditionally and unselfishly. She will be missed by those she left behind.

 

She is survived by her son David and wife Julie; her daughter Deborah and husband Mark; grandchildren Amanda Grell, Spencer Rich, Joanna Stone, Tyler Rich, and Emily Goodrich; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry Rich and her siblings Albert, Eugene, Daniel, Robert, and Virginia. 

 

A funeral service is scheduled for 10:30 am on June 13th, 2022 at Fort Logan, Denver.
