Obituary of Mildred "Millie" (Aragon) Lopez

At exactly midnight on Thursday, April 7, 2022, Mildred “Millie” (Aragon) Lopez passed away at the age of 84. She was called home after a short and blessedly pain-free battle with pancreatic cancer.

Millie was born on March 16, 1938, in Trinidad, CO to Andres and Piedad (Lopez) Aragon. She graduated from Primero High School in the class of 1957. Choir and pep club were her favorite school activities. Though she moved to Denver when she was 18, remaining there for the rest of her life, she never stopped cherishing her hometown and the friends and family she left behind. In Denver, she met her husband, Charles Lopez. Together they had three children: Veronica, Philip, and Carlos. Millie worked several jobs in hospitality and healthcare, retiring as a phlebotomist at St. Joseph Hospital.

She dreamed of traveling from a young age. Her eyes saw the sunset from some of the world’s most beautiful beaches in Florida, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Millie, Veronica, and Philip journeyed to New Mexico once every year to find tranquility in their ancestral homeland.

Millie valued independence, simplicity, and peace in her life. Her one indulgence was shopping for fine jewelry and “little blouses.” Well, that and sweets—Millie loved dessert. Wild birds and foxes that visited her backyard never left hungry. She fed the birds every day. She often journaled about both her most treasured and tumultuous moments. Millie’s greatest devotion was to her faith in God.

Mildred is survived by her children: Veronica (Stephen), Philip, and Carlos (Marile); brothers Eddie, Eugene, and Robert; five grandchildren: Sara, Charles, Amanda, Jordan, and Alina; nieces and nephews; and her loyal friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings: Andrew, Clorinda, Dolores, Floyd, Mae, Nancy, and Richard; and dear friends who left before her.

Funeral service and reception will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Crossroads Church, 10451 Huron Street, Northglenn, CO 80234, officiated by Samuel Lopez. The service can be viewed online in real-time at http://thecrossroadsabc.online.church
