Obituary of Dawn Babcock Nicholson

Dawn Babcock Nicholson passed away in the early morning of October 11, 2022. Dawn was born on December 6, 1927 to Emmet and Madge Babcock. She was predeceased by her brother Bradford. Dawn is survived by her three children, David (Nick) Nicholson, Leslie Imes, and Brooke Nicholson. She also has two granddaughters, two great granddaughters and one great grandson.

Dawn attended South High School in Denver. She obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in music at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. While at UNC, she joined the Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority. Two of her Sorority sisters introduced her to their brother, John Nicholson. This was the beginning of a long relationship and John and Dawn married on June 12, 1949. Their marriage lasted 52 years until John passed away in 2001.

Dawn always wanted to teach school and began teaching first grade shortly after graduation and marriage. She occasionally taught second grade but first grade was her favorite. She taught until 1976 when she officially retired.

Dawn was very interested in family genealogy and traced back both her own and John’s families. The two of them would travel to do family research. Dawn and John were members of the Ghost Town Club in Denver and loved to plan expeditions to new locations, especially out of state. Dawn liked to knit and do cross stitch pictures. She also had beautiful roses wherever she lived.

A memorial service will be held at University Park United Methodist Church on November 12th at 2:00pm. A small reception will follow.
