Obituary of Shirley K. Walker

In Loving Memory of

Shirley K. Walker

1946 – 2022

Shirley Kathleen Walker passed away peacefully at the age of 76 after a well fought battle against ovarian cancer. She was home surrounded by those who loved her when she passed away on November 7, 2022.

Shirley was born on July 1, 1946 in Canon City, Colorado to Leslie and Ruby Kyle. She spent her childhood in Colorado and lived there until she met the man of her dreams. Once she married Jerry, she supported his military career as he was stationed in Colorado, Germany, New Jersey, then finally back to Colorado where Jerry retired.

One of the funniest stories she would tell happened when she was 7 years old and was supposed to be babysitting her little brother Dick. Shirley thought it would be a good idea to go in front of grandma’s house and play with matches. Some how she got the match too close to her face and burned her nose pretty badly. She knew she needed water but was afraid to tell her grandma what she did so she stuck her face into a mud puddle to stop the burning. Once it stopped hurting she went into the house and told grandma she had fallen on the sidewalk and scraped her nose. Little did they know the old, grumpy neighbor had already called and told on them. They both got spanked for lying!

Shirley lived a life of service and believed in giving back. She volunteered for the National Guard Foundation for 12 years. No was not in her vocabulary and it wasn’t out of the ordinary for her to meet a service member at 9:00 at night to deliver a rent payment. She also was a volunteer for the Disabled American Veteran Auxiliary for 21 years. She loved handing out Forget Me Nots on Veterans Day and decorating the Christmas tree at the State nursing home.

Shirley was proceeded in death by her love, Jerry, by her parents Leslie and Ruby and by her baby brother Kevin. Shirley is survived by her: brother, Richard (Deborah) Kyle; daughters, Charlene Shields and Susan (Rick) Dressel; grandchildren, Alex (Faustine) Greenwood, Marc Shields, Danielle Shields, and Caitlynn Engholm; great grandchildren, Jaxx Greenwood, Lynx Greenwood, and Jayde Engholm. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
