Obituary of Josephine Grosso

It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved Josephine (Jo) Grosso passed away on December 15, 2022, at the age of 76 at home in Denver, Colorado. She was named Giuseppina Florio by her parents, Enrico Florio and Anna Theresa Palmisano, and born in Paterno Calabro Italy. In 1955, Jo immigrated to the United States with her mother, father, and three sisters: Mary Francis, Lena and Helen.

At the young age of 18, Jo married the love of her life John Grosso, III, with whom she lived and loved life for 58 years. Together, the early years of their marriage were met with financial hardships and unstable employment before ultimately joining the middle class and preparing to set down roots by buying their first home in north Denver, Colorado.

Jo learned through her love for animals that she had the compassion, patience and understanding to have children. Before long, two sons, Monte and Eric were born four years apart to the young couple. Jo became a homemaker and an entrepreneur. Jo and John founded Grosso’s income tax service, which soon became one of the first computerized tax preparation services in the Denver metro area.

The Grosso family loved motorhome travelling and visited many places throughout the years. A favorite family destination was Glendo, Wyoming, where they water skied, walked the sandy banks of the reservoir, and played games together. They eventually bought a small ranch in Glendo, where John and Jo lived part time for many years spending their days gardening, maintaining a feeding hole for finches, rabbits, other local wildlife, and hosting the extended family for vacations throughout many summers.

Jo had the soul of an artist and spent much of her pastime painting nature scenes, often of places she loved to visit and admire. Signing each piece as “Pina”, with reference to her birth name, her artwork remains on the walls of family and close friends.

In Jo’s final years she struggled with Diabetes and Parkinson’s disease. Despite the growing challenges, she remained light- hearted, ever thankful for the care her husband provided, and cherished play time with her grandchildren. She leaves behind her beloved husband, John, her children, Monte and Eric, her daughter-in-law Courtney, and her grandchildren Kayla, Aidan, Pierce, Jaidee and Briggs.

Above all, Jo cherished, supported, and loved her children and husband through all the good times, and gave all she had to help endure through the bad times. She was fearless and found joy in most everything. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
