Obituary of Cynthia Kay Kuntz

Cynthia Kay Kuntz, 76, of Aurora, CO, passed away on January 21, 2023, after surviving a brain tumor in 1997 and living life to the fullest for 26 glorious years thereafter.

Cynthia was born on January 6, 1947 to Harry and Betty Witters in Great Bend, Kansas and later raised by her stepmother, Eleanor. After Cynthia graduated from high school, she studied nursing at the Dominican School of Nursing in Kansas, graduating in 1968. Cynthia worked as a Registered Nurse in Kansas, California, Hawaii, Nebraska, and Colorado. She eventually settled in Aurora, Colorado with her two children, Lareina and Justin, and worked at Swedish Hospital as a Critical Care Nurse.

In 1997, Cynthia was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer. After participating in a clinical trial and the surgical removal of the tumor, she miraculously survived but had to retire from nursing. She spent many years volunteering at the Colorado Neurological Institute where she was treated for her brain tumor.

Cynthia was deeply connected to many friends that she gained over the years through her nursing career, her own time as a patient and through her church and community. Cynthia’s gratitude and grace with her physical and mental limitations was an inspiration to all.

Cynthia is survived by her children, Lareina Jackson and Justin (Brittney) Kuntz, her sister, Becky Barulich, and her four grandchildren, Taylor, Maddox, McKenna and Beckett.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Conference Center RidgeGate, 9878 Schwab Way in Lone Tree, CO on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation, an organization that supports developing treatments for GBM brain tumors.
