Obituary of Denny Paul Furst

DENNY PAUL FURST

Denny Paul Furst was born on March 5, 1938 in Topeka, Kansas to Paul and Ida Mae Furst.  They moved to Wichita, Kansas shortly thereafter, and Denny attended North High School, graduating in 1956.  Denny worked for his father in the residential construction business during high school.  At an early age, Denny loved collecting and learning about rocks.  He enrolled in the Municipal University of Wichita (now known as Wichita State University) and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1960.  He was destined for the oil business.

Denny married Sharon on June 19, 1960 in Wichita.  They started a family and became loving parents to three children.

During his career in the petroleum industry, Denny worked for Lario Oil and Gas and Petroleum Incorporated in Wichita.  He moved the family to Denver for a new position with Skelly Oil, and spent several summers in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s doing field work in Alaska.  He also worked for Champlin Petroleum, Texas Oil and Gas, and eventually founded Furst Exploration, with Sharon and the kids as corporate officers.  He helped discover and develop many petroleum resources in Kansas, Colorado, and Wyoming during his successful career, and treasured his friendships and partnerships with many people.  He very much enjoyed regaling family and friends with mostly-true stories about his Alaskan exploits.

Denny passed from this earth on January 28, 2023, and was preceded to heaven by Sharon, his loving wife of 55 years, and his parents.  He is survived by his three children, Randall (Michelle) of Lakewood, Colorado, Kerry (Rebecca) of Arvada, Colorado, and Cindy Turner (Randy) of Castle Rock, Colorado.  In addition, his grandkids Arielle (Joshua) Christensen, Austin (Kayla) Furst, Christopher (fiancée Sydney) Furst, Tracy Furst, Shelby Yaffe, Lauren (Zach) Schultz, and great-grandkids Paige Yaffe and Felix and Finnegan Furst will all deeply miss their “Grampy”.

Services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 11:00 am at Three Trees Chapel, 13416 W. Arbor Place, Littleton, CO 80127.  Denny’s remains will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, where Sharon’s remains were also previously dispersed.  Contributions in Denny’s memory can be made to the Colorado Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the animal adoption agency of your choice
