Obituary of Carmen M. Capozzoli

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Carmen M. Capozzoli.

Carmen’s 87-year-old body was quietly at war with liver cancer for many years. The disease never reared its ugly head, until the final week of the battle! Carmen passed peacefully at home, surrounded by many loving family members, in Colorado, where he resided for the last four years. He possessed a warm giving nature, loved by everyone who knew him. He is sorely missed.

Carmen was born on October 24, 1935, in Phila PA, to Frank W Capozzoli and Rose Iacovelli Capozzoli. Carmen had two older sisters, Angie and Marie. As a teenager, Carmen loved to work with his father with tile and cement, and enjoyed the conversations in Italian with grandmom (he couldn’t understand a word of it!). He retold many stories of South Philly, Cedarbrook NJ, summers down the shores, and all of his beautiful old cars! Carmen lived a full life in Fishtown in his family house on Frankford Ave.

On the career side, Carmen proudly served his country in the United States Navy, served his community as a Philadelphia Police Officer (retired 1980), and continued to work, retiring again at Pepsi Cola (1997). Carmen’s focus was always on his family. His free time was dedicated to family car rides, kids sporting events, sharing family meals together, watching the Phillies and Eagles, and of course… fixing up the Frankford Ave house, which always seemed to involve cement and duct tape!!!!! Carmen spent MANY summer weekends crabbing with the family at Seaside: YUMMY – the aroma of crabs, garlic and spaghetti filled the Fishtown house! Throughout his later years, Carmen truly enjoyed visiting his sons in New Jersey and many, many trips to Wildwood. Carmen finally moved to Colorado in 2019 to live with his daughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren! A road trip to remember in the minivan!

Carmen joins his wife Eleanor P Yocum Capozzoli in the afterlife. During his last days on Earth, he talked lovingly on joining Eleanor at the “casino in the sky” for her birthday.

Carmen is preceded in death by his son, Frank and daughter Janet.

Carmen is survived by his Phila/New Jersey Family: son Anthony (Cindy) Capozzoli, son Rocco (Donna) Capozzoli and grandchildren Michael, Mia and Mathew.

Carmen is survived by his Colorado Family: daughter Tina (Paul Fleschler) Bowlin, grandchildren Kristen and Michael, and two great grandsons Alexander and Declan. Carmen’s Crysler minivan is also lives on!
