Robert Brown

Obituary of Robert Harry Brown

Robert H. Brown passed away in Westminster, CO on March 20, 2023.  He was born in Newton, KS on December 9, 1926, to Maud Miller Brown and Harry Holmes Brown.

Bob was a graduate of Peabody High School in Peabody, KS, and was known to burst into a rousing rendition of the Blue Warriors fight song with the least provocation.  He attended the University of Kansas where he played basketball.  Rooting for KU season after season during March Madness was an annual event eagerly anticipated by Bob.

Bob was a World War II veteran and trained in the Army Air Corps.  As a civilian, he obtained his pilot’s license and flew small single-engine planes.  For years he worked as an insurance adjuster throughout the Midwest and Colorado.  Periodically he became a “storm trooper” and worked in temporary storm offices around the country following one of mother nature’s rampages. Later in his work life, he transitioned to selling commercial lines of insurance.

If Bob wasn’t teasing you he probably just hadn’t met you yet.  He had a sharp sense of humor which was often on display.  Always an active member of his church, several bridge clubs, and the Wheat Ridge Rotary Club, Bob loved to volunteer his time and talents.  He had a life-long passion for learning and reading.

Bob is survived by his son Steven L. Brown and his two children Kyle L. Brown (Christine) and Keith H. Brown; and his daughter Kimberly K. Smagala (Thomas) and their children James A. Smagala (Edith) and Jessica A. Page (James); and his seven great-grandchildren Ethan, Owen and Aiden Brown, Eleanor & Gregory Smagala and Charlotte & Vivienne Page.  Bob’s wife, Charlene J. Brown, and his daughter Lynn Ann Brown preceded him in death.

Bob touched many lives and will be remembered as a man of great character and as a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, and grandpa-great.

For those desiring, contributions may be made in Bob's memory to Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church, 9180 W. 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO  80033, or to the Wheat Ridge Rotary Foundation, P.O. Box 616, Wheat Ridge, CO  80033
