Obituary of Paul Joseph LaCosse

PAUL JOSEPH LACOSSE, peacefully passed away at StoneCreek of Flying Horse Senior Living Community surrounded by family in Colorado Springs, Colorado on April 5, 2023 listening to Elvis Presley’s “Where Could I Go but to the Lord”. Paul was born on May 16, 1942 in Marquette, Michigan to loving parents PAUL E. LACOSSE and RUTH M. (RAISH) LACOSSE.

Paul attended Bishop Baraga High School in Marquette, Michigan where he excelled in academics and in sports (basketball and baseball).

After graduating from Bishop Baraga High School, Paul traveled to the Detroit Tigers Spring Training Camp in Florida. Paul’s talent earned him 3rd Base and Designated Hitter for the Detroit Tigers. Unfortunately, his weak ankles and feet ended his career and dreams to play professional baseball with his revered Detroit Tigers. However, this experience provided him the opportunity to meet several famous Detroit Tiger baseball players such as right fielder “Mr. Tiger” Al Kaline! 

Paul was accepted to the University of Minnesota where he played college football for a semester, transferred to Arizona State and eventually transferred to the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. 

Paul worked for Lederle Laboratories and Michigan Corrections Center. He was fortunate to have several careers throughout his life. 

Kind, gentle and generous, Paul was well liked and respected by all who knew him, especially his favorite sister, Norene (his only sister). She has fond memories of Paul teaching her to drive a stick shift in Marquette, Michigan. He was so patient as she continued to stall the vehicle on a hill in traffic with final success, connecting clutch and gas.

Paul was a devout Catholic with a deep religious upbringing. His favorite pastime was watching his nephews play soccer and taking them to baseball games. He loved, loved his nephews and family…we all grow in different directions yet are roots are one. 

Paul is preceded in death by his loving parents PAUL E. LACOSSE and RUTH M. (RAISH) LACOSSE and spouse HELEN LOUISE (MAYRAND) LACOSSE. 

Those left behind to cherish Paul’s memory are: his favorite sister NORENE  (LACOSSE) HOGLIN and husband DENNIS HOGLIN. Nephew, DENNIS PAUL HOGLIN, his wife JENNIFER and their children BAILEY HOGLIN, and triplets LAUREN, ANDRE and WESLEY HOGLIN. Nephew, TRAVIS HOGLIN, his wife ALYCIA and their children SIRI and OLIVAR HOGLIN. Nephew, KRIS HOGLIN, his wife JENNI and their children AMBER and AVA HOGLIN. As well as extended family and friends. 

A private celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 2:00PM at StoneCreek of Flying Horse 1889 Silversmith Road Colorado Springs, CO 80921 in the Pikes Peak Room. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to; StoneCreek of Flying Horse Senior Living Community - Memory Care, Bloom Hospice or the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region.
