Obituary of Ronald 'Ron" Johnson

A Life Well-Lived

Ron Johnson was born in Youngstown, Ohio on March 27, 1958 to Jack and Mary (Herman) Johnson, the youngest of seven children. In 1966, the family moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where Ron's father was a Deacon of the Baptist Church. After graduating from New Smyrna Beach High School in 1976, Ron enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at Homestead AFB, Florida. Two years later, Ron transferred to the Morbach Munitions Supply Depot in Germany where he spent the next six years as a Munitions Specialist in charge of inventory in Germany and Denmark.

In 1984, Ron transferred to Lowry AFB in Denver, Colorado where he was an instructor for Munitions Protocol. After leaving the Air Force, he married Cindi (Dinardi) Markwell on August 24, 1985, and together they raised two children, Scott and Lauren Johnson, until their divorce in 1996. On May 29, 2005, Ron married Carol Wainwright.

Ron was good with his hands and smart about how things worked--he could fix almost anything. He parlayed his military inventory experience into successful managerial positions, winning the respect of clients and employees alike with his knowledge and friendly "can-do" attitude. Among his favorite jobs were owning and operating Your Neighborhood Handyman, LLC and managing inventory for Major Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc.

Ron was strong, brave, kind, and compassionate. He had a soft spot for children, handicapped people and seniors. With a ready smile, he went out of his way to help people wherever he could. He was also keenly observant, spotting eagles and hawks on their perches from miles away, and finding unexpected adventures along backroads. Ron enjoyed travel, walks on the beach, hikes in the mountains, golf, video poker, photography, concerts (especially Southern rock 'n roll), and anything having to do with the Pittsburgh Steelers football team. Above all, Ron loved spending time with family and friends.

To Those I Love

Isla Paschal Richardson

If I should ever leave you whom I love

To go along the Silent Way,

Grieve not, nor speak of me with tears,

But laugh and talk of me as if I were beside you there…

…And when you hear a song or see a bird I loved,

Please do not let the thought of me be sad

For I am loving you just as I always have.

You were so good to me!

There are so many things I wanted still to do--

So many things to say to you.

Remember that I did not fear--

It was just leaving you that was so hard to face.

We cannot see Beyond, but this I know,

I loved you so--

'Twas heaven here with you!
