Obituary of Dixie Lee Cassily

Dixie Lee was born October 26, 1938 in Greeley, Colorado to Albert and Genevieve Kercher and passed away November 7, 2023 in Broomfield, Colorado

Dixie moved with her parents and brother to Commerce City, Colorado where she lived most of her life. She attended Adams City High School, graduating in 1956. She met her future husband, William (Bill) Cassily on a double date with a girlfriend in 1959. He was her friend’s blind date. They married June 18, 1961 and moved to Columbus, Mississippi where Bill was stationed in the Air Force. They returned to Colorado in 1964. They had two children, Theresa (Terry) and Gary, and were married for 50yrs.

In early years Dixie was an avid baton twirler and was a majorette for her high school, ACHS from 1953-1956. After returning from Mississippi, in the 60’s-70’s Dixie started teaching baton for the Commerce City recreation center, she then formed a marching corp that was aptly named, The Dixie Twirlettes, that marched in parades all around the state and became very well known. She was also very active with the NBTA (National Baton Twirling Association) and hosted many competitive baton contests in the Denver Metro area.

Dixie worked for ANR Freight System for 20+yrs, retiring when the company closed its doors in 1990. Her and Bill then sold their home in Commerce City and bought their “dream” home in Northglenn, CO.

Dixie was an avid football fan (Bill was a football widower), she loved the Denver Broncos, CU Buffaloes, CSU Rams, and the Air Force Falcons and would talk/argue football for hours if someone was willing to take her on.

Dixie loved attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events and functions. You would find her going from Softball to Football to Wrestling to Basketball to awards ceremonies and she cherished every minute of it, as did her children and grandchildren.

Dixie is preceded in death by her husband William Cassily, her parents Albert and Genevieve Kercher, and her brother Jimmy Ray Kercher. She is survived by her children Theresa (Kelvin) Post and Gary (Cheryl) Cassily. Her grandchildren Ashley (Andrew) Scott, Matthew (Erin) Post, Jordan Post, Tristan Cassily, Cameron Cassily, and Tanner (Nikita) Cassily. And her great-grandchildren, Jackson Scott, Colton Scott, Kensington Scott, Oaklynn Scott, Everett Post, and Olive Post.
