Obituary of Allen Thieme

On the evening of November 11, 2023, Allen Thieme passed away peacefully at the Collier Hospice Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado after a short battle with complications following an emergency surgery. Allen was 81 years old. A beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, friend, mentor and more, he was loved and will be missed by many.

Allen was born on June 26, 1942 in Davenport, Nebraska to Alvina and Melvin Thieme, and his family lived in Superior, Nebraska for most of his childhood. After graduating from Superior High School, Allen moved to Colorado and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado. Over the course of his 35 years in teaching Special Education at the middle and high school levels in Colorado, Allen made a difference in countless lives of students with special needs, many of whom referred to him fondly as “Mr. T.”

Allen was also an active outdoorsman who loved four-wheeling, camping, snow skiing, water skiing, running, hiking, and fishing. For a time, he found his niche as a home brewer and enjoyed the company of his homebrew buddies as they brewed and shared their specialty beers. In his later years, he also enjoyed long road trips with his wife Amy in their travel trailer, and they developed a devoted cycle of traveling southwest in the spring and north to Montana and beyond in the fall. Allen was also an avid sports fan and a lifelong fan of the LA Dodgers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. And he found deep joy in taking care of his home and property of 36 years in Golden, Colorado, and was considered an impressive hobby handyman. At the end of his day, Allen regularly enjoyed his favorite beer: a Dale’s Pale Ale.

Allen is survived by his wife of 42 years, Amy; older brother Dwain and wife Kellie; younger brother Gary and partner Joe; daughter Angela and partner Rob; daughter Alex and husband Kyle; grandsons Tyler and Dylan; step granddaughters Maisy, Bella, and Lulu; and 8 nieces and nephews.

Allen was preceded in death by his mother Alvina and his father Melvin, as well as 3 sisters-in-law.
