Obituary of Meredith Lusby

On November 21, 2023, Meredith Lusby took Jesus’ hand and joined Him in heaven. We are rejoicing that she is with the Lord and all those who have gone before her. What a celebration awaited her as she was welcomed home!

Meredith lived 90, almost 91, years here on earth filled with faith, love for family and friends, music, and laughter. She was a true force of nature, a person with endless energy and determination throughout her life. She exemplified a life full of purpose and joy. Rarely, did she turn away from a challenge, but always rebounded from difficult circumstances with a smile and positive attitude. Her humor and wit, feistiness, love for music and people, and courageous perseverance inspired many people, even in her last days.

When she outlined her memorial service – yes, so like Meredith – she said “I want my service to reflect how I followed Jesus in my walk and leaned on my faith in Christ throughout my life. I am thankful for my husband, children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. I have been truly blessed with family and friends.”

Meredith’s love for music, laughter, and love of life began at a young age. She was born in Le Mars, Iowa on November 30, 1932, to Robert and Dorothy St. Clair.  Her older brother, Bob, and younger sister, Deborah completed the family. Her father owned the St. Clair Stores, a men’s clothing chain, throughout Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Most of Meredith’s happy childhood was spent in the small town of Fergus Falls, Minnesota where she learned to sing and play the piano and developed many life-long friends. Her music and Fergus friends wove deep, continuous roots throughout her life.

Upon graduating from high school, she briefly attended University of Colorado before going to Michigan State University to earn her degree in music therapy. She married Edward Zolinski and raised three children for 20 years. In 1980, she married Gregg Lusby and spent many joyful years with him, blending a family of 6 adult children, playing music at church, and traveling. Throughout her life, she directed several church choirs and played piano and organ. Most notably, she directed the choir at St. John Chrysostom Episcopal Church for more than 30 years. The melodramas she organized and directed at St. John’s will always be joyfully remembered by participants and attendees.

Meredith was preceded in death by her husband, Gregg, in 2016. She is survived by her sister, Deborah Robinson; daughter, Karen Zolinski Lusby; her sons, Paul Zeir and Ned Zolinski; and their spouses, Joel, Melanie, and Rhonda. Her stepchildren include Lynn and Mike Lusby, and Mike’s wife, Patty. Her beloved grandchildren include Sarah Wagle, Tyler Andrews, Silowen and Tavi Zeir, Jake and Josh Zolinski, and Kelley and Randy Lusby. She was also great grandma or “GG” to six great grandchildren.
