Obituary of Colton James Hamilton

Colton James Hamilton, 20 years of age, passed away at home in the early morning of Saturday, December 2, 2023.

Colton was born in Denver, Colorado to Stephen J. Hamilton, (Father) and Suzette L. Hamilton (Mother).

Colton had a love for life and the great outdoors. He was an aspiring entrepreneur, who taught himself how to embroidery. In 2021 at the age of 18 years old he started his own embroidery company called “Twisty Fungus”. He landed jobs at a local restaurant and young skateboarding brands. His passion for embroidery came from his love for drawing. Colton was never seen without a drawing pad on him. He made gifts for friends while trying to work on his own clothing line. If he wasn’t creating something he was hired to shovel snow, dog and house sit, and bring in deliveries for neighbors.

Outside of work, Colton enjoyed skateboarding with friends. He didn’t care where or when he was ready all the time. He was also known to video his buddies trying new tricks or he was talking to other skaters he didn’t know. Colton never met a stranger – he wanted to know their story.

Colton’s biggest passion was fishing, especially fly fishing. He loved the art of laying that fly on the water in perfect presentation waiting for that big hog to bite. His favorite place to fish was anywhere with water and fish. In just 3 years of fly-fishing Colton and his dad floated Wyoming twice and New Mexico once with one of his uncles. In all of their outings they landed double-digit fish. When Colton and his dad weren’t fly fishing, they were spinning casting. Colton was always excited to go fishing and it didn’t matter if it was a lake, reservoir, river or stream. Colton’s face would light up whenever he said “Fish On”. He never got fished out. On Colton’s and his dad’s most recent trip they fished in Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, and back into Wyoming where they got to spend twelve days of guy time, father-son bonding, hanging out together, and enjoy each other’s company.

Anybody who knew or met Colton felt his gentle, compassionate, sweet caring, and friendly personality. He cared about people and always wanted to make them feel good. Colton was never about himself he gave to others first and foremost especially kids. He used to leave a coin on top of the mechanical horse ride for a kid to get a chance to enjoy a ride.

Colton’s Mom stated that Colton made her a better person where she learned from Colton to never judge anyone not knowing their circumstances, too be patient and kind to everyone, and to love unconditionally. Colton trusted his mother and confided in her knowing fair well she would never repeat what he said. Colton and his mother would spend hours talking and take fun road trips where his mother let him play his music as loud as he wanted in the car, going to record stores, and just bonding over mother-son time. His mother is surely going to miss those fun road trips they spent together among so many other things.

Colton never passed up supporting and attending his cousins Ashlyn, Mason, and Taylor in their sporting events or his best friend Ellie in her ballet performances. Colton never wanted to be the center of attention, rather give it to others. Colton spent many days on the water with Dad, Grandma and Grandpa, Uncles, Aunts and Cousins.

Colton played basketball, baseball and wrestled before he found skateboarding, drawing and fishing. His dad started a GoFundMe Account https://gofund.me/5025c8fa combining Colton’s https://gofund.me/5025c8fa

The funds raised will go to purchasing skateboarding and fishing gear respectively for kids who otherwise may not get to experience the joys of either or may struggle to purchase the proper equipment. Colton would want every boy and girl who wanted to participate the opportunity to do so. Colton’s urn reads “GONE FISHING”.

Hamilton, (Mother), Steve Hamilton, (Grandfather), Gregg and Kim Hamilton, (Uncle/Aunt), Jeff and Kim Hamilton, (Uncle/Aunt), Ashlyn Hamilton-Sims, (Cousin), Mason Hamilton, (Cousin), Taylor Hamilton, (Cousin), and Scott Hamilton, (Uncle/God Father).
