Obituary of Joanne H. Eaton

Born in Washington DC on August 7, 1934, Joanne Hablow Eaton grew up in Miami, Florida where she later married and had three children. As a young woman she joined Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority and was a highly active alumni as fostering community and relationships were her passion. She took immense pride and joy in raising her family and maintaining lifelong friendships, many of whom she had known since early childhood.

Joanne passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 9, 2023, after a brief period in hospice care. She leaves her three children, Alise and her husband Lowell, Rose and her husband David and Adam and his wife Susi, her six grandchildren and her two great grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her sister Katherine Dunn and Myles S. Eaton.

When moving to Bozeman, Montana in 1976 she became the “Welcome Wagon Lady” greeting newcomers to the area and developing lasting friendships. Joanne graduated from Montana State University in 1985 and became actively involved with the theatre arts community. She was the Executive Director of the Vigilante Theater Company, Northwestern Repertory from 1986 to 1995. During that period, she was a member of the Panel for the National Endowment for the Arts that provided grants to art and education programs, as well as small theater companies across the United States and was a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Emerson Center for the Arts and Culture, established in 1992. She was also the Managing Director for Stuart Weber, Classical Guitarist.

Joanne was civic minded as well, being a member of the Bozeman Planning Board and the Bozeman Zoning Commission.

Upon moving to CO in 2003 to be closer to her family, she enjoyed working and, again, performed her civic calling as a member of the City of Superior’s Planning Board, a Trained Counselor for Senior Citizens through the Boulder County Recreation Department, and a Coordinator of “Senior Socialables” for Har HaShem Congregation.

In her younger years Joanne enjoyed travel, skiing, golf, tennis and throwing parties for her family and friends. Later, she became an avid reader, enjoyed watching professional sports and spending time with her friends, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
