She grew up Iowa City, Iowa, where she graduated high school, and attended business school. She met and married her husband Addison James (Jim) Vorheis in 1948. They soon moved to Denver in the early 50's. Shan loved living in North Denver where the neighbors became lifelong friends and her children graduated from high school. She and Jim later moved to Littleton, Colorado. After Jim's passing, Shan moved to the Riverwalk community in Littleton in 2000 and  quickly met many friends and was active in the community. She still played pinochle every Tuesday until she had to make the move to Sunrise at Pinehurst in August of 2023.

Shan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim, 4 of her siblings, her step mother.

Her granddaughter Eryn Girton tragically passed away in June of 2023.

A favorite activity of Shan's was to attend the large annual family pot luck dinners that were hosted at various relatives' homes over the years. Shan did not wish to have a large funeral or religious ceremony and so to remember and honor her, the family will host a pot luck dinner for the family and a few close friends.
