Obituary of John Michael Murphy

John was born on August 31, 1983 in Denver, Colorado.  He died peacefully in his sleep on January 2, 2024.

John is preceded in death by his father, James Tillman Murphy.  He is survived by the joy of his life, his daughter, Stella Vigil-Murphy.  He is also survived by his mother, Patricia (Sue) Schley, and step-father, Richard Schley of North Aurora, IL; sister Jennifer Murphy (Chris) Dosch and nieces and nephew, Callie and Sarah Nelson and Riley and Katelyn Dosch all from North Aurora, IL. He is also survived by his brother, Jeffrey James Murphy of Highlands Ranch, CO.

John loved sports, starting at T-Ball through Legion Baseball.  He also played baseball for Overland High School, where he graduated in 2002. At Overland, John was a member of Future Business Leaders of America, Student Council and participated in various public speaking events. In addition to baseball, he played Youth football and basketball.  He loved to golf, snowboard and fish. John had such a friendly nature. He enjoyed making new friends wherever he went.  Following High School, he attended Western State University in Gunnison, CO.

Family was extremely important to him. He, along with his brother Jeff, helped their mother take care of their grandfather for the last 18 months of his life. 

Services for John will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 3549 Navajo St., Denver, CO 80211 at 10:00 a.m.  A "Celebration of Life" will be held immediately following at Clancy's Irish Pub, 7000 West 38th Avenue, Wheat Ridge, CO.
