Veronica Merkl

Obituary of Veronica Kathleen Merkl

Veronica “Ronnie” Kathleen Merkl, 75, of Denver Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on January 25th, 2023, with her son at her side. She was born on February 9, 1948 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and raised by John Frederick and Mary Adelaide Merkl. She grew up in Wheat Ridge with her brother Jay, sister Anne, and a large group of cousins, aunts and uncles whom she loved dearly. She attended Holy Family Grade School, and later, Holy Family High School, where her mother was a teacher of Latin and History. She built a tight-knit community of friends at school, many of whom maintained friendships with her up until her final days. Her childhood was an idyllic time in her life, which she recalled fondly.

Veronica enjoyed reading, gardening, and collecting cookie jars. She found joy in performing small acts of service for her friends and community. Numerous friends and family members would come home from vacation or a long weekend to find all of their weeds pulled and their trees trimmed. She would often pick up trash from the roads and parks near her home.

A daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, mother, grandmother, and friend, Veronica touched the lives of many. She worked as a clerk for Los Angeles County Social Services; a beautician; a Purchasing Analyst for Safeway Stores, Inc.; a Customer Service Representative for Mailwell Envelope Co.; a Food Service Attendant for St. Joseph’s Hospital; a Customer Service Representative for Love & Logic Institute; and offered Companion Care for ResCare Homecare, helping the elderly in their homes. Her favorite job, though, as she always said, was watching her grandaughter.

Veronica is survived by her son, Dameon Merkl, grandchild Fiona Siverson Merkl, and several nieces and nephews.
