Obituary of Samuel Edwin Randolph

With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Sam Randolph.

   Samuel Edwin Randolph was born in Mountain Home Arkansas on June 13, 1942.   He was welcomed to his eternal home by many loved ones on December 25, 2023.   His parents were Edna Ruth (Fawcett) Randolph and Otis Milbourn Randolph.  Sam was the youngest of 5 children.  He was greeted at home by his 4 siblings, Helen(Lawrence) Randolph, Mary (Peck) Randolph, Joann(Loss) Randolph, brother Oltis Edward Randolph.

   His father secured a job with the Union Pacific Railroad in Colorado in 1948.  His mother then moved her family from Arkansas to Boyero, Colorado in the back of his uncle's farm truck, arriving Sunday, August 1, 1948, which was Colorado Day.  They moved into a section house near the railroad tracks, owned by the railroad.  Later they moved to a house further into the town of Boyero, where Sam's mother was postmistress for 25 years.   Sam graduated eighth grade from Boyero School and finished his formal education at Loveland, Colorado.

   Sam married Thora Lynne Nickell on December 2, 1961.  To this union were born three children: two girls, Bonnie Lynne (Carl) Thompson, Penny Jo (Brad) Chambers, and one son, Samuel Nickell, aka Nick (Donna) Randolph.  He has six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

   Sam was a hard worker who started working at an early age, working for neighbors with fencing and farming during summers and after school.  He later worked at Phillips 66, Limon Co-op, and Monks Construction before purchasing his own Semi and becoming an owner/operator, leasing to R&K Trucking in January of 1973.  He was given a plaque by R&K Trucking for 25 years of service in 1998.  He had driven over 3 million accident-free miles.

   Back injuries and major back surgeries forced him to give up his trucking.  At home he spent his time with family and his hobbies, which included an HO train layout and making large latch hook rugs.

   Sam was devoted to his family and was known for his sense of humor, in spite of suffering for years with back pain.  He especially enjoyed bantering back and forth with his friend Bob Will, the Post office men, and the staff at Hoffman Drugstore.

   Sam was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Lynne, his parents, and all siblings.
Sam is greatly missed by his family and many friends.
