Obituary of Gordon Gray Shepherd

September 3, 1943 – March 10, 2020

We sadly mourn the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, family member, dear friend and work colleague, Gordon Gray Shepherd. Gordon passed away on March 10, 2020, with his family at his bedside, due to diabetic complications. Gordon was born in Portland, Oregon and moved with his parents, Inez and H.W. Shepherd, to Aurora, Colorado when he was a baby. He graduated from Aurora Central High School, and following his graduation, attended Colorado State University.

Gordon spent forty plus years as a Senior Logistics Executive and as a result transferred he and his family to Utah, Texas twice, Southern California and back to Colorado. Gordon was known for his professionalism, knowledge, work ethic and passion of the industry and his passion was contagious. Per his logistic industry colleagues, he was a pleasure to work with and a skilled senior leader, a great person who enjoyed life from a real perspective and always willing to share his knowledge and mentor others. Gordon served as Vice President of the Colorado Transfer Warehouse Association, member of the Denver Traffic Club, Council of Logistics Management member and Rotarian since 1989.

Gordon was an avid golfer and spent hours playing the many golf courses in the states he resided.  His time spent with his lifelong golf buddies was time he treasured.

Gordon was known for his integrity, wit, sense of humor and handsome looks. He was a kind and gentle man who cared about others. He loved and delighted in his family, adoring his wife, daughter, and granddaughter. He had a special loving relationship with his granddaughter Amber. He cherished their coffee dates, conversations and spending time with her.

Gordon is survived by his wife Melody Shepherd of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; daughter Sheila M. Shepherd (Tony Johannik, fiancé) of Evergreen, Colorado; and granddaughter Amber L. Mielke (Karl) of Littleton, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Gordon’s honor. Date and details will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association
