I am saddened to learn of Dr. Halbert's passing. Bill was so much more than the Petroleum Engineering Department Head, or a professor at Montana Tech. To me, Bill was a guide, a counselor, and by my graduation had become a trusted friend. He influenced so many of us both directly and indirectly and encouraged us to become the best engineers and people we could be. Whether discussing academic options, or campus political issues, or job opportunities, he never hesitated to provide analysis and advice, but never pressured or made decisions for us. Perhaps his most impactful lesson was in teaching us professional and personal accountability. I am and will always be deeply grateful to Dr. Bill Halbert.
Unfortunately, I will not be attending the memorial service. I extend my most sincere condolences to Dr. Halbert's family and friends. May he rest in peace forever.

Dr. Halbert impacted so many people's life during his tenure at Montana Tech. He is main reason many of us went into the petroleum field, and he certainly did everything to enable us to succeed via the education we received. If it wasn't for Bill offering me some scholarship dollars and a summer job as a lowly freshman, i doubt i would have become a petroleum engineer. So i do owe him a lot of gratitude for those gestures.
In about 2018/2019 Bill would meet some of his former students at some downtown Denver place for lunch. He was such a story teller and b'ser! And he loved his wine at those "meetings". I know I will really miss Dr. Halbert.....may he rest in peace and become united with his dear Miss Agnes once again. Sincerely. Jim Fraser

May God comfort you over the loss of Bill, and may he help you to cherish all the good, rich memories of him. He was almost like a older brother to me. I wore some of his hand me down clothes, we rode the school bus together, we went to church together, and we played together down at our grandmothers barn. He was a unique individual.
