Obituary of William Grady Halbert Jr.

William Grady Halbert Jr.

William (Bill) Grady Halbert, Jr. was born in Vernon, Texas, to (William) Grady Halbert and Eunice Johnson Halbert on November 16, 1938.

After graduation from high school, he began his studies in petroleum engineering, earning Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Texas and a Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma. He married Anna Marie Faske on September 12, 1959. That union bore four children: Kendall (Lakewood), Rodney (Dillon), Kimberly (Golden) and Kelsey (Connecticut).

Bill taught petroleum engineering at Montana Tech in Butte. He married Agnes Irene Zerr October 7, 1972; this union brought two more children into the fold: Ralph Zerr (Littleton) and Trent Zerr (Vietnam). Bill left academia, accepting a job with Marathon Oil and relocating to Denver. Bill’s work in the oil industry would eventually take him to Ohio, London, Denver and Venezuela, laying the foundation of a love of travel for the whole family.

Bill retired in late 2007, but plans for continued travel were abruptly changed when Agnes suffered a debilitating stroke in 2008. Bill was her primary caregiver for twelve years until Agnes’ death November 10, 2020. Bill moved to Erie, CO shortly afterward. He died peacefully on August 4, 2022. In addition to his first wife, children, and a sister Hollis Harper (Granbury, TX), he is also survived by grandchildren TeLacey and Samantha Zerr; Kenny Halbert; Zach, Zoe and Zabrina Zerr; and great granddaughters Savannah Zerr and McKenna Basanez.

Memorial services for Bill and Agnes will be held Thursday August 25, 2022, at 11:00am in the Dixon Chapel at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch.
